Design Concept
This project was very unique in a lot of ways. The homeowner wanted a house that was going to be placed on top of a hill in the san antonio hill country area. The main concept was to go above the tree line and oversee the beautiful valley below creating wonderful views. It really connects the user with the natural context around it. As a design-build project it really challenged our capabilities to conceive the construction system to use. It was fully built with a pier & beam system
Construction Process
The complicated and isolated terrain made the construction approach on this project quite particular. Seated on the rocky San Antonio Hill Country; the foundation for this house had to be acomplished very different than the typical foundations in the Houston area.
In order to achieve the desired idea, to bring the living areas above the tree line, we decided to build a combination of concrete block columns and podium concrete block walls with a timber pier and beam floor joist system. Some of the tollest columns are 30 feet erected from the hill slope. A combination of Concrete, Stone, Timbers and Stucco make this project a unique Hill Country residence
